10 Lines from ‘That Thing Called Tadhana’

‘That Thing Called Tadhana’ has been a crowd’s favorite since its initial release last November 2014, during the 10^thCinema One Originals Film Festival (read my C1 Originals experience here). Due to positive reviews from fans and critics, the indie film has been picked up by Star Cinema for nationwide release on February 4.

‘That Thing Called Tadhana’ follows Mace (Angelica Panganiban) and Anthony (JM de Guzman), strangers who meet at an airport in Italy. Later on, they decide to go on an unforgettable road trip to Baguio and Sagada to help each other mend their broken hearts.

Aside from the kilig scenes and incredible cinematography, the romantic comedy also features numerous lines na tagos sa puso. Here are the 10 best hugot lines from ‘That Thing Called Tadhana’.

1. Anthony: “Bakit ba kayong mga mapeperang mga babae, ang hilig n’yong hinahanap ang sarili n’yo sa Baguio? Ba’t ba Baguio? Hindi ba pwedeng sa inuman na lang?”

In every break up, a person has to undergo his/her own ‘Eat.Pray.Love’ experience. Alcohol can be a temporary fix, but it cannot totally heal a broken heart.

2. Anthony: “Alam mo ‘yung sinabi ni F. Scott Fitzgerald? There are all kinds of love in this world, but never the same love twice.”

Yes, you had a great love, but that point in your life is now over. Di mo na marereplay yung mga kilig moments niyo before. Pero hindi ‘yun ibig sabihin na hindi ka makakapag mahal muli.

3. Mace: “Sa tuwing babangitin ko siya, Ichechek ko ang Facebook, Twitter or Instagram niya, bibigyan kita ng piso.”

Anthony: “Piso talaga, ano tayo grade 1?”

Social media has made it easy for you to stalk your Starbucks lovers. Oftentimes, when you see his/her posts, nabibitter ka. Hence, the only solution is, totally removing the person in your life. I-unfollow at i-unfriend mo na siya. Baka malike mo pa yung post niya 57 weeks ago!

4. Mace: “Gaano katagal bago mo siya nakalimutan?”

Anthony: “Matagal.”

Mace: “Gaano nga katagal? One year? Two? 3? 4? 5?”

Anthony: “Importante pa ba ‘yun? Ang mahalaga, nakalimutan.”

There is no actual time frame in mending a broken heart. Walang step-by-step guide para doon. Moving on may take a long time, but once it happens, it will be a break-through to your life.

5. Anthony: Kamukha ng ex mo si John Lloyd? Saan? Saang parte ng mukha niya si John Lloyd?”

Mace: “Ayan o, yung mata niya, tsaka yung smile niya.”

Anthony : “Wow. Love is blind. Naniniwala na ako, love is blind.”

In this funny scene, Mace tries to convince Anthony that her past lover looks like the one and only  ‘JLC’, when in fact; Anthony does not see any resemblance. Kung hindi pinupuri ng friends mo yung jowa mo, magtaka ka na.

Watch mo yung Shallow Hal, baka ma enlighten ka.

6. Anthony: “Kapag may dumaang shooting star, ano’ng iwi-wish mo?”
Mace: “Na sana…sana hindi ko na siya mahalin.”

Hindi ikaw yung bida sa ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’. Walang gamot na puwedeng inumin para madaling makalimot. Pwede kang maglasing, pwede kang mag Tinder,  pero kung mahal mo pa, mahal mo pa talaga.Let time heal your pain.

7. Mace: “Alam mo ‘yung love na 8 years na kayo? Sa ganong love ka pa ba magdududa? Pero wala pala sa tagal ng relasyon yun. Ke eight months kayo o eight years, kung gusto ka niyang lokohin, lolokohin ka niya. Pag hindi ka na niya mahal, hindi ka na niya mahal.”

Eh ano ngayon kung 8 years kayo? Kung sa 8 years na yon eh di pala siya sure sayo.

8. Mace: “Hindi. Na. Kita. Mahal. Makakaalis. Ka. Na. Seven words. ‘Yung 8 years namin, kinaya niyang tapusin in 7 words.”

This quote is similar to Popoy’s line in the film One More Chance,  “Bash, 5 years.. itatapon mo lang lahat?”  #AWTSU

9. Anthony: “Hindi ka na niya mahal. Yun na yon. Ano di malinaw dun?”

Mace: “Tang *** naman, sabihin naman niya kung bakit–“

Anthony: “Bakit, kapag sinabi ba niya kung bakit, may magbabago? Ang bottomline, hindi ka niya mahal.”

When relationships end, those who are left behind always ask the question, “why?” Pwede mong hanapin yung reason kung bakit ka iniwan, pero hindi pa rin magbabago yung fact na iniwan ka.

Mace: “Kung mahal mo, habulin mo, ipaglaban mo. ‘Wag mong hintaying may magtulak sa kanya pabalik sa’yo. Hilahin mo. Hanggang kaya mo, wag kang bibitaw. Sorry, mahal ko eh.”

Pag sinakripisyo mo trabaho mo at pamilya mo para sa mahal mo, yan ang true love. ‘Di ka takot eh. Pero, kung ilang beses mo ng hinabol, pero ayaw pa rin sayo, tama na.

“Where do broken hearts go nga ba, tita whitney?”

Depende siguro sa heart. Pwede siyang lumipat sa ibang puso, pwede siyang tumalon sa dagat, o pwede siyang lumipad mag-isa.

Nang matututo siyang mamuhay

Nang matututo siyang magmahal muli.
